Announcing the Ian Tyson Legacy Fund
The Western Folklife Center and its supporters have always endeavored to make opportunities available to those throughout active ranching communities who nurture and contribute to the ever-changing expressive culture of the American West. In this spirit, we are pleased to announce the Ian Tyson Legacy Fund.
Individuals from the ranching community will be eligible to apply to participate in any workshop of their choosing during the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering for only $50, no matter the original cost. Plus, we’ll throw in a year-long membership to the Western Folklife Center. Hands-on workshops that take place during the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering vary each year and range from rawhide braiding and leather carving to writing and hatmaking. Workshops typically take place over the course of one to four days and are taught by master artists from throughout the region. The Ian Tyson Legacy Fund will also support workshops that focus on the creative process as well as navigating the business side of writing and performing western music and poetry.
The legendary Ian Tyson is renowned for his songwriting and mentorship and has been an active participant at the National Cowboy Poetry Gatheringsince its beginnings in 1985—we are honored to pay homage to him and his six-decades-long career through this effort! Funding for the Ian Tyson Legacy Fund has been seeded by our long-time member and friend Vickie Mullen and is sustained by the continued giving of other generous donors and friends. We hope you will join us in keeping this fund going strong and consider donating through the link below. Simply choose the “Ian Tyson Legacy Fund” from the dropdown menu when prompted before completing your donation.
