Elko – Join student artists, parents, friends and teachers at a reception to celebrate the student art presented in the Western Folklife Center’s G Three Bar Theater during the 23rd National Cowboy Poetry Gathering. The reception will be held on Wednesday, March 14 from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm in the Theater at 501 Railroad Street. Refreshments will be served.
Each year as part of the Poetry Gathering, Northern Nevada students from all grade levels are invited to contribute artwork to the Student Art Show. This year’s show includes the work of over 250 budding artists ages 5 to 18, and has been hanging in the Folklife Center’s G Three Bar Theater and elsewhere in the Western Folklife Center since January. Thousands of Poetry Gathering attendees enjoyed and appreciated the creative talents of Elko County students during the 8-day event.
This year the Western Folklife Center served more than 6,000 schoolchildren through its education programs during the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering. In addition to the Student Art online roulette Show, kids participated in workshops, learned about the gardian (cowboy) culture of southern France in the Youth Festival, and experienced and participated in cowboy poetry and music in the Cow Kids’ Stampede, Young Buckaroo Poetry Session, and school assemblies in Elko, Spring Creek, Owhyee, Carlin and Wells.
The mission of the Western Folklife Center is to enhance the vitality of American life through the experience, understanding, and appreciation of the diverse cultural heritage of the American West.
