Youth Education Programs

kids_on_wagon_2004_sm The Western Folklife Center offers educational programs and workshops for youth year-round at its facility in Elko, Nevada, and in communities throughout the West. These include but are not limited to workshops, exhibit tours and a series of special performances presented as part of the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering.

In addition, the Western Folklife Center crafts programs that provide young people with the skills they need to document and present their lives in a variety of mediums such as photography and audio production. For example, Voices of Youth was an interactive, community-based photography and audio project that was designed to place area teenagers in closer touch with their communities. The Western Folklife Center’s educational programs reach an average of 4,000 school children each year. Kids working in a darkroom
