Workshop braidingThe Western Folklife Center believes that hands-on experience is the best teacher. We offer workshops during the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering and the summer season in Northeast Nevada that provide participants with unique opportunities to try their hand at traditional arts such as rawhide braiding, horsehair hitching, pulled wool saddle blankets, cooking, poetry and prose writing workshops, and we have led botonizing hikes and ranch tours during the summer months. These workshops and classes are kept small so that participants can interact and get to know each other as they learn.

Youth Education Programs


kids_on_wagon_2004_sm The Western Folklife Center offers educational programs and workshops for youth year-round at its facility in Elko, Nevada, and in communities throughout the West. These include but are not limited to workshops, exhibit tours and a series of special performances presented as part of the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering.
