Visit the Western Folklife Center Wiegand Gallery and experience The Life and Legacy of Ranching in Baja California Sur, an educational and artful exhibition showcasing the unique landscape, history, living heritage and artistry of the ranching communities of Baja California Sur. Mexico. A companion exhibition of Carlos César Díaz Castro artworks is featured in our Fireplace Nook and Gift Shop. Read more. During the September 12 Downtown Elko Wine Walk (see below), help us celebrate the conclusion of the exhibition with the Elko Mexican Folkloric Ballet, in the Pioneer Saloon!

Downtown Elko "Wine Walks" continue! Join us at the Western Folklife Center during your "Walk" every Second Saturday throughout the summer. Cost is $25.00 and you must be 21 to participate. For more information, visit the DBA website. During the Wine Walk, help us celebrate the conclusion of the exhibition, The Life and Legacy of Ranching in Baja California Sur, with the Elko Mexican Folkloric Ballet in the Pioneer Saloon!

Join us Elko Let's Dance and the Western Folklife Center in dancing the night away to Elko's own Road Hard band at our Harvest Moon Dance! As with our popular Let's Dance! series, we'll even have some lessons on popular steps thrown in. Cost will be $10 per person, $15.00 per couple, kids under 12 are free. Read more.

The Western Folklife Center Gift Shop hosts a book signing for Oklahoma's  "Official Chuck Wagon Cook," Kent Rollins, on July 18, 2015, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at 501 Railroad Street, Elko. There will be food sampling from the book, A Taste of Cowboy, with a wine pairing. Mark your calendars now and plan on a great time!

Downtown Elko "Walks" continue, this month is a "Wine Walk" and the Western Folklife Center will be participating in all Wine Walks sponsored by the Downtown Business Association. "Walks" are every Second Saturday beginning at 3:00 pm. Cost and start location will be announced.  Visit the DBA website for information.

The Western Folklife Center Gift Shop will reopen after inventory to be a part of the Downtown Elko Second Saturday fun by holding a special Sidewalk Sale from 9am to 3pm. (The Gift Shop will be closing at 3:00pm. )

May 9 will be the first downtown Elko "Walk" sponsored by the Downtown Business Association! Pick up your map at the Elko Art Gallery, 407 Railroad Street beginning at 3:00 pm. The Western Folklife Center will feature clay artist Sam Brown and her pottery wheel, plus interactive artwork and more. It's an Art Walk for the entire family to enjoy (non-alcoholic beverages available).

Elko's 12th annual Snowflake Festival!The Western Folklife Center Gift Shop will be open for the daytime festivities and, just for the kids, Santa's entourage takes over the G Three Bar Theater from 1pm to 3pm. Visit the DBA website for information.

Check your local listings for KUED Channel 7's premiere showing of Healing the Warrior's Heart, a documentary produced by the Western Folklife Center’s Taki Telonidis, in collaboration with Gary Robinson of Tribal Eye Productions, and KUED Channel 7, Salt Lake City’s PBS affiliate. The film is narrated by actor Peter Coyote. Read More about this event.

Exhibit opening reception for A Brushwork Roundup: Western Paintings and Drawings by Craig Sheppard. Join us in the Wiegand Gallery for a gallery talk by curators Jim McCormick and Fred Ried, a poetry reading by Paul Zarzyski, appetizers and wine. 6pm-8pm. Read more.

The Caleb Klauder Country Band is coming to the Western Folklife Center. Join us for an evening of dancing the evening of Saturday, October 18 as the band melds honky-tonk and early country into music harkening back to the old dance hall days. The band will also be teaching an old-time music workshop (for vocals and instruments) on Sunday, October 19th. Read more.

Sam Platts & The Kootenai Three are coming to the Western Folklife Center for one night only: join us at 8:00 pm (Pioneer Saloon doors open at 7:30pm) for a honky-tonkin' evening of roots country music and western dancing. Admission: $15/person, $15/couple. Read more.

Opening day of the 31st National Cowboy Poetry Gathering ticket sales for members of the Western Folklife Center. General sales won't begin for another month: become a member and purchase tickets early, before some shows sell out!

 "Second Saturdays" - 2014 (except June)

Visit the Western Folklife Center Gift Shop during the summer Second Saturdays in downtown Elko! All "Walks" begin at 4:00 pm and run until 7:00 pm (starting location to be announced). June 7 is the 3rd annual Margarita Walk; July 12, August 9, September 13 are Wine Walks. The Western Folklife Center will not be participating in the October 11 Beer Walk. Brought to you by the Elko Downtown Business Association.
